Canoeing Training Camp and Competition 2008

This year's training camp and competition will be held from the 14th to the 17th of August 2008 and will be run from the canoe centre in Llandysul.

The training camp is aimed at developing canoeing skills with an introduction to moving water, it will be open to all abilities with flat water sessions taking place throughout the four days.

All equipment will be provided and qualified instructors will be at hand to give advice and guidance.

Programme of events

Thursday:- The morning will be spent setting up camp and registering in the control which will be situated in the Canoe centre. After lunch at 1pm groups will have their first chance to have a paddle on the river with their allocated instructors. Canoeing will finish by approximately 6pm and the evening entertainment will start soon after.

Friday :- Safety cover and coaching on the river will start from 9am until 6pm. There will be group time allocated and each group will have a chance to paddle in the morning and afternoon. Canoeing will finish by approximately 6pm and the evening entertainment will start soon after.

Saturday :- Safety cover on the river will start from 9am and paddlers can have some last minute practice on the course. The competition will start at 12 noon and finish by 5pm. The competition itself will be a slalom and paddlers will have to paddle down through the green and up through the red gates marked on the course. Prizes will be given to the paddlers who did well in various age categories. Prize giving will finish by approximately 6pm and the evening entertainment will start soon after.

Sunday :- Throughout the day there will be various fun events on the river with lots of prizes available. These may include the "Caterpillar race", the "Sprint", "Build your own boat" and the "Lost on the river race". Prize giving will be at 4pm in the club house.

There will be various activities each evening which will include Bar-B-Q’s, Fun Workshops, Bouncy Castle, Disco and Team games.

The cost for this event will include all your food, camping, evening entertainment, coaching, equipment, entry to the competition and one year's membership to the Welsh Canoeing Association (for juniors only).

The total cost is £40, or £35 to current members of the Welsh, British or Scottish Canoeing Associations.
