Llandysul Paddlers France Trip

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the trip to France, this year we had 25paddlers and combined the Ardeche and the man-made site in Lyon it sounded like everyone had a wonderful time so many thanks to Matt and his team for all the hard work.

Llandysul River Festival

Our annual river festival is from August 14th to 17th 2008, this event attracts around 100 paddlers and is great for all levels of ability, the training is aimed at developing river skills and also introducing paddlers to Slalom courses. If you have never tried a slalom competition before then why not give it a go. We are also looking for as many helpers as possible to assist with coaching or even bank side support, lifting and carrying boats or helping in the kitchen. Please let me know if you can help. The full 4 day training camp costs £40 which includes, camping, food, coaching and entry to the race.

West Wales Canoe Forum

SLALOM DEVELOPMENT TRAINING

These sessions are aimed at those who are interested in developing their slalom skills.

Our club sessions run on Tuesday evenings at 5pm until 6pm and Thursday evenings from 6pm until 7pm. For further details please contact the Coaches:

WHITE WATER TRAINING DAYS

These sessions are for the intermediate or advanced paddlers and will be run on the Tryweryn in North Wales or other similar grade 3 and 4 rivers you can use slalom or plastic boats.

Sunday 28th September day in Bala with Gareth and Nick 8.30am depart cost £5.

Sunday 23rd November day in Bala with Gareth and Nick 8.30am depart cost £5.

Also every Saturday will be a 10am group day. This day will be free,a decision will be made in the morning as to which river we will paddle. Club nights are held every Tuesday at 6pm (Informal get together)

FAMILY PADDLING OR FLAT WATER TASTER DAYS

These sessions are for those who wish to develop kayaking or canoe skills on flat water or small rapids these days are open to all members.

Saturday August 23rd Taster paddling day open to all abilities 10am - 3pm £7.50 per person.

W.C.A COMMUNITY COACHES

West Wales has 2 Community coaches who are based at the centre in Llandysul they are Nick Bates whose role is to develop women and girls paddling in the area and Mike Maybury

Mike’s remit is to mentor coaches in West Wales and support local clubs.

SEA KAYAKING

Introduction to sea kayaking courses on September 6th and 7th 2008.

You could also try your BCU 3 star sea kayaking course on August 9th and 10th.

OPEN BOATING

We have organised some open boat training days on the 13th August and also the 21st August each day starts at 10am in Llandysul and finishes at 4pm the aim of the day is to improve open boat skills and also to look at rescues from open boats. The day is open to anyone and costs £15 each.

INLAND KAYAK

To improve your inland kayaking you could come along to the club night which is held every Tuesday at 6pm or the unofficial get together on Saturday mornings at 10am.

SAFETY AND TRAINING DAYS

The following dates are for people wishing to improve there safety whilst in the outdoors and on the rivers.

BCU Eight hour Aquatic First Aid course Sunday 21st September 2008

White Water Safety and Rescue Course 27th and 28th September 2008

Foundation Safety and Rescue (FSRT course the old CST) Sunday 5th October

 

Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Centre runs a large amount of B.C.U coach and paddler development courses. The head of coaching at the centre is Matt Blue, so please contact Matt if you would like additional information on any courses, the centre number is 01559363209. Further information is available from our website www.llandysul-paddlers.org.uk. Some club members will be eligible for discounts on courses; unfortunately we cannot offer everyone a discount on courses. To be eligible for discounts on the star test, intro to White Water or Sea courses you must be a member of Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club (50% discount) and to be eligible for a discount on the coach development course level 1-5 or WWSR courses you must be an active local coach who assists on club nights and other development days.
