News - April-June 2008
 Dear Member,
This is the newsletter for April, May and June, 2008. If you
would like to book on any courses please contact the office opposite the centre
on 01559363209. Please note that the club night is now back up and running at
6pm every Tuesday evening.
Llandysul Paddlers Top Award!
Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Club has become only the second club in
Wales to achieve the top club award, this award is given by the Sports Council
for Wales and the Welsh Canoeing Association for further information on this

Ladies Only Teifi Tour
Many thanks to Gemma and all her helpers for organising the
ladies only Teifi Tour it was a great success and everyone who took part looked
as though they had a great time on and off the water. The dates for the 2009
event are February 21st and 22nd.

Pool Lessons: Canoeing lessons in
Llandysul pool are held every Monday from 4pm until 5pm (Juniors Only) and also
from 7pm until 8pm for everyone. For further info and costs please contact the

Committee Meeting: The Next Committee
meeting is on May 13th at 7.30pm in the canoe centre.
France Trip: The France trip is now
finalised please have a look on the website for full trip info. The dates are
July 22nd until July 30th

SLALOM DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
These sessions are aimed at those who are interested in
developing their slalom skills. Our club sessions run on Tuesday evenings at 5pm
until 6pm and Thursday evenings from 6pm until 7pm. For further details please

WHITE WATER TRAINING DAYS
These sessions are for the intermediate or advanced paddlers and
will be run on the Tryweryn in North Wales or other similar grade 3 and 4 rivers
you can use slalom or plastic boats.
Sunday 27th April Slalom Coaching day in
Bala with Gareth 8.30am depart cost £5.
Sunday 29th June Slalom Coaching day in
Bala with Gareth 8am depart cost £5.
Also every Saturday will be a 10am club day. This day will cost
£5 each a decision will be made in the morning as to which river we will paddle.
Club nights are held every Tuesday at 6pm
FAMILY PADDLING OR FLAT WATER TASTER DAYS
These sessions are for those who wish to develop kayaking skills
on flat water or small rapids these days are open to all members.
Saturday June 7th Taster paddling days open to all abilities
10am until 4pm £10 per person.
Also every Saturday will be a 10am club day. This day will cost
£5 each a decision will be made in the morning as to which river we will paddle.
Club nights are held every Tuesday at 6pm
EVENTS
White Water Racing development Weekend May 10th and 11th 2008
As part of a wider program of development in all disciplines,
the WCA is holding an introduction/talent spotting weekend for White Water
Racing at Llandysul on the 10/11 May. This open to anyone to turn up and try
their hand at this exciting discipline. Boats will be provided. We shall also be
catering for any budding WWR coaches. So if you fancy paddling a WW Racer or
being a coach in the WWR discipline when it is available later in the year, come
along for the weekend, which will start at 0930hrs on Saturday 10th May. Please
let myself or Gareth Bryant know by e-mail or short letter if you intend to take
part.

River Teifi Clean Up May 17th 2008
On Saturday May 17th we will be having a paddle from
Llanfihangel-ar-arth down to Llandysul, during this paddle we will be taking
rubbish out of the river in an attempt to clean this part of the river. If you
would like to come for a paddle and join in the cleaning just turn up at 10am on
Saturday May 17th
WEST WALES CANOE FORUM May 17th 2008
After the river clean up on Saturday May 17th we will be holding
the second WWCF meeting in the canoe centre in Llandysul. For further

WCA Update weekend June 14th and 15th 2008
Nick bates the RCO for West Wales has organised a WCA update
weekend in Llandysul on the 14th and 15th June further information will be made
available over the next few weeks.
W.C.A COMMUNITY COACHES
West Wales has 2 Community coaches who are based at the centre
in Llandysul they are Nick Bates whose role is to develop women and girls
paddling in the area and Mike Maybury
Mike’s remit is to mentor coaches in West Wales and support
local clubs.
Both Nick and Mike will be at hand to assist on most of the
training days if you would like to contact Nick about any of the training

SEA KAYAKING
Llandysul Paddlers will be running a trip to the sea on May 3rd
just in normal kayaks and sit on tops we will look at paddling some of the
coastline near Cardigan. The day costs £5 to book a place please call Gareth on

We will be also running full intro to sea kayaking courses on
July 12th and 13th or September 6th and 7th 2008. You could also try your BCU 3
star sea kayaking course on August 9th and 10th.
Other introduction to sit on top sea kayaking days will be held
over the summer on
July 23rd, July 30th, August 9th, and August the 24th so why not

COURSES
Llandysul paddlers canoe centre runs a large amount of B.C.U
coach and paddler development courses, the head of coaching at the centre is
Gareth Bryant so please contact Gareth if you would like additional information
on any courses, the centre number is 01559363209. Further information is

www.llandysul-paddlers.org.uk. Some club members
will be eligible for discounts on courses; unfortunately we cannot offer
everyone a discount on courses. To be eligible for discounts on the star test,
intro to White Water or Sea courses you must be a member of Llandysul Paddlers
Canoe Club (50% discount) to be eligible for a discount on the coach development
course level 1-5 or WWSR courses you must be an active local coach who assists
on club nights and other development days.
