Current outdoor pursuits qualifications - permanent staff

The staff who work at the centre have many years of experience in working in the outdoor environment. All hold full first aid certificates and have DBS checks.

Gareth Bryant

 

Gareth is from Llandysul and first started canoeing on the river Teifi at the age of 11. He has been the manager of the centre since it opened in 2000 and is also the Watersports Development Officer for Carmarthenshire County Council. Gareth is a BCU level 4 inland Kayak coach, a 5 star paddler and has a variety of additional NGB awards.  He is a driving force in Llandysul Canoe Club, organising a weekly schedule of training to ensure our paddlers are fully prepared for the season through strength and conditioning and skills coaching. 

Nick Bates

Nick lives each day with the comfort that life just doesn’t get any better if you really do love your job! Nick is the assistant manager of the centre and now lives in Carmarthen. Nick is originally from Llanelli and grew up as a keen skateboarder, which is still a big passion in his life. Nick completed his NVQ level 3 in outdoor education in 2002 and also picked up the student of the year award from the CCTA Graig college in Llanelli. Nick is a BCU level 4 inland kayak coach, 5 star paddler and has his MLTB single pitch award and mountain leader, he also holds a variety of additional NGB awards. As well as all of the above Nick is also the dad of Teva and Eden.

Jon Haylock

Jon has been working in the outdoors for over sixteen years and after a charmed life of being an adventuring nomad has decided to make Llandysul his home where his passion for paddling is being channeled into slalom .  Jon is originally from London where his early days of climbing trees and paddling the Thames grew into an unhealthy obsession with mountaineering, climbing, kayaking and surfing.  Jon has a degree in Sports Science and is a BCU Level 4 sea and inland kayak coach, 5 star paddler, has his MLTB SPA award and is a technical advisor for Coasteering.  He is also a coach at the kayak club as well as personal coach to his girls Megan and Matilda.

James Bowen


Lili, Sam, Teva, Eden 

Lili and Sam help with painting and decorating in the centre. They also take part in food testing and demolition. Lili is 8yrs, Sam is 6yrs, Teva is 2 year old and Eden is 1 day.

Alix Bryant

Alix works part time for the centre organising and running the centre hospitality. She also runs an outdoor shop in Llandysul called Outdoor Kit 4U where you can find loads of lovely kit and more! Her other full time job is looking after Lili and Sam who help with the creative art in the centre as well as being Welsh slalom kayakers. Alix is originally from Wimbledon and studied leisure and tourism in Esher college before moving to Wales.

Lou Haylock

Lou is the lady at the end of the phone who deals with all the bookings, enquiries, and all of the office admin. From time to time she is assisted by her two top girls Megan and Matilda.
